Independence, Inc. is now accepting nominations for the 2021 Disability Advocate and Youth Advocate of the Year.
The Disability Advocate of the Year award honors a leader within the service area of Independence, Inc.
The award is given to an individual who has fought hard to:
• Improve conditions and opportunities in the community for people with disabilities.
• Increase community awareness of issues related to disabilities.
• Remove barriers for people with disabilities.
• Improve community participation for people with all types of disabilities.
Eligibility:
The Advocate of the Year nominee must reside within the Independence, Inc. service area. Independence, Inc. employees and board members are not eligible.
Nominations will close on August 14th, 2021 at 4 p.m.

The Youth Advocate of the Year is given to an individual who has fought hard to:
• Improve the conditions and opportunities in the community for people with disabilities.
• Increase community awareness of issues related to disabilities.
• Work towards removing barriers for people with disabilities.
• Inspire youth to become future leaders and advocates for the disability community.
Eligibility for Consideration:
The Youth Advocate of the Year nominee must be between the ages of 14 and 26 and reside within the Independence, Inc. eleven county service area. This nominee should have a disability. Staff and board of Independence, Inc. are not eligible.
