About
What We Do
Independence, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit committed to empowering individuals with disabilities, seniors, and people with behavioral health disorders to live independently. We are a non-residential, community-based, consumer-controlled agency that provides a variety of enrichment services designed to help North Dakotans with disabilities escape dependency, emerge from poverty, maximize self-sufficiency, and actively participate in community life.

Our organization is a member of the nationwide network of Centers for Independent Living (CIL). There are over 300 CILs located throughout the United States. Member agencies are designed and operated by people with disabilities. Therefore, over 50% of the staff and Board of Directors is composed of individuals with lived experience. Organizations are federally mandated under Section 725 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act as amended in 1998.

Independence, Inc. receives funding from the United States Department of Health and Human Services- Administration on Community Living (ACL). As well as the North Dakota Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, grants and private donations.
Who We Serve

Our organization offers core services to eleven North Dakota counties including Bottineau, Burke, Divide, McKenzie, McHenry, Mountrail, Pierce, Renville, Rolette, Ward, and Williams.
